Rafael Dos Anjos has pulled out of the UFC 196 super-fight against Conor McGregor with a broken foot leaving fans disappointed. Although unavoidable given the circumstances, I have no doubt that McGregor will jump at the chance to use this against Dos Anjos in the build up for the inevitable future re-match up.
The question remains: Who will McGregor fight at UFC 196?
Contenders must be lining up to have a go at taking down McGregor!
Donald Cerrone
Back in 2015, Cerrone took offense to Mcgregors comments that the 155lb category were “stuck in the mud”, starting a war of words, McGregor most recently calling Cerrone a quitter. Cerrone is known for being up for fighting anytime anywhere and would surely be more than willing to fight McGregor after his comments. Cerrone was quoted saying that he would “knock the f*****g s**t out of McGregor”, but will he be given the chance to back up his words? At this time, he seems like a likely candidate for the fight.
Nate Diaz
When Jose Aldo pulled out at UFC 189, Nate Diaz contacted to step up. Diaz is a fighter who stays in shape all year so is always ready to go. Diaz called McGregor out in December following his victory over Michael Johnson at UFC Fox #17.
Eddie Alvarez
Recently, Eddie Alvarez said that he would be happy to fight McGregor.Alvarez claims McGregor to be an easier fight than Dos Anjos and would be tempted by the payout which would come with the fight. As top contender, he must be in with a chance to take the fight.
It seems that everyone in the division wants a go at McGregor, with many fighters having strong words for him. The most likely fight at this time for me seems to be Cerrone or Diaz. Both fighters will be in good shape and ready to fight! Given that both have been vocal on their thoughts, I’m sure either fighter would happily take the fight believing that they have the upper hand.
